Katharina Grosse is one of the most distinctive painters in international contemporary art. She creates artistic prototypes of possible realities and in her works, usually related to the space they are in, the boundaries of the imagination dissolve. Rather than display reality, she drives it forward with the medium of painting. With her sprayed work, she transforms whole spaces into complex worlds of color that extend beyond the frame to the outside world of architecture and landscape. Her approach to painting, often termed \u201canarchic\u201d, is an abstract, masterly and spontaneous gesture that creates amorphic apparitions. The spontaneity is an expression of the lack of predictability in the creative process Katharina Grosse is interested in leaving linear ways of thinking behind, trying to open the boundaries of the object and materialize it anew. In her works, the capacity of the imagination is celebrated literally and abstraction is used as a means of daring \u201cto leap into paradox reality\u201d (Grosse).<\/p>\n
Katharina Grosse was born in Freiburg in Breisgau in 1961. She lives and works in Berlin.<\/p>\n
